The F.I. (F*ck it) Equation

33 odd years before Mark Manson produced his best-selling book “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck”, I had my own answer to how to live life and it was literally called the F.I (F*ck It) Equation.

Now I’m not claiming to be a guru of any sorts, but whilst my life philosophy came mostly from the arrogance of a 17 year old youth, when I read Mark Manson’s book, I saw so many similarities to what I was trying to find in my life.

I was looking for a way to avoid the realities of life after I had left school. Going from being (as my father put it) “The King of the Shits…to the Shit of the Kings”. I was particularly poor at taking authority and saw any form of advice as an attack on my person, rather than helpful advice.

What an arrogant little arsehole.

But when everything got too much, and I felt under siege from all the forces around me, those forces that I tried to control but could not accept that I couldn’t control, I would then turn to my F.I. Equation. The simple act of saying F*ck It and letting go of control and just letting stuff happen, was amazingly refreshing and stress busting. Of course, at 17 or 18 I didn’t understand exactly why… and it only took me another 30 years to really work it out, but it was the start of my personal development journey.

So, when all the world seems too hard…remember the F.I. Equation.
