 Let’s talk about TENACITY

Tenacity in its simplest form means never giving up…but it needs a level of clarification, and as such, I call it WISE TENACITY.

Never giving up is a great attribute, but there is a balance between two extremes that must be continually consciously monitored. On the one hand you may be taking certain actions to achieve a goal but you continually miss the mark, but you don’t give up and you try again, and again, without ever changing the actions or the way you do things. This is the classic ‘If you continue to do what you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get what you’ve always got’.

At the other extreme, you try but miss the mark, so you change your actions, then you change them again, then again. In effect you’re not being tenacious, you’re changing your actions without having put in enough time and effort to see if they actually work and you’re using the change of actions as an excuse not to be tenacious and to avoid working hard.

The very sad and unfortunately most common trait however, is that of taking no action at all. So many people go through life without taking any action, without showing any level of tenacity. They expect things to happen for them with little or no effort. They believe they have a ‘right’ to be successful without the ‘responsibility’ of tenacity. These people are driven by a fear of failure and if they make no decisions or take no action or show no tenacity then they can never make a mistake.
