Do you have Values....or just Opinions

Look very closely at what you call your values. The simple way to identify the difference between a Value and an Opinion is that Values make you a better person…Opinions make you better than someone else.

It takes a great deal of personal honesty and confidence in your place in the world, to recognise that some of the “Values” you have held dear to you for many years, and that you have defended with vigour, are merely opinions. This doesn’t mean that you have been lying to yourself, because these opinions have been built up over your lifetime of experiences, and you truly believe these opinions to be true and as such they have become values you live by.

But Values have nothing to do with what anyone else does. Opinions are all about what other people do.

The problem with opinions is that they become a protection mechanism, and when someone else challenges your opinion you feel an immediate obligation to defend it like you’re under attack.

Values don’t have this problem as they only judge the way you yourself think and react. Have a good look at what “Values” you hold in life. Hold them up to the light and see if they are making you better…or just better than someone else.
